Newsletter Updated 10/01/02. FALL CLASSIC:
Registrations for the upcoming Northeast Area and State Fall Classic are due to
the NE Area office by OCTOBER 11th. Both bowling and volleyball
forms need to be in by that date plus all physicals need to be into the State
Headquarters by October 11th also! Please note that we are back at
Emporia State University for the volleyball competition on November 2nd.
VB individual skills and team skills will be offered for the first time at both
Area and State competitions. The State Fall Classic will be Nov.
22-23 in Manhattan. The 2-day bowling and volleyball competitions is now
the largest statewide event! If you know someone wanting to volunteer for
this event, contact Susan at HQ. Get your hotel reservations in! FUNDRAISING FORMS:
Filling out and filing Fundraising Registrations Forms with HQ is a written
policy. There are a number of reasons for this policy, including
legitimacy of the event--should a call come to the HQ or Area office and for
making sure there are no conflicts of interest. If you have any questions
or need forms, contact Alex at HQ or Debbi. HOLIDAY CARD:
WANTED: Special Olympics athletes to design a unique holiday card.
We would like to use artwork done by a SOKS athlete for the 2002 holiday
card. All participants will be recognized and the winner will receive a
special award. RULES: 1) Drawing must be in black and
white, 2) Artwork must be done on 8 1/2 x 11 inch size paper, 3) Be
sure artwork does not got folded or bent in shipping, 4) Enclose artist's
name, address, phone number, age, and SO team name. Deadline is October
28th. Send entry to SOKS, ATTN: Adrienne Folkerts, 5280 Foxridge
Drive, Mission, KS 66202. 10TH ANNUAL MEMORABILIA AUCTION:
This event will be held Nov. 16th at the Cessna Activity Center, 2744 George
Washington Blvd. in Wichita. Former Royals great, Frank White, will be on
hand to sign autographs and to speak with the public. The doors will open
at 5:00 pm with the live and silent auction beginning at 7:00pm. Items up
for bid will include a Hank Aaron jersey, a Lance Armstrong photo, and a Lenny

a chance to make some money and enjoy some basketball! KSU is again
allowing SOKS-NE Area to coordinate the program sales at all home men's and
women's basketball games. A flyer with more information on how local
